# Create an agent — step-by-step wizard

> Detailed guide to the ChatNorris agent creation wizard, with all 6 steps explained.

# Create an agent — step-by-step wizard

The creation wizard guides you through your AI agent's initial setup in 6 steps. You can complete it in a few minutes, and the result is an agent ready to test.

To start, go to **My agents** in the side menu and click **New agent** (or **Create my first agent** if you don't have any yet). The wizard opens full screen. At the top you see the steps — **Type · Analysis · Business · Training · Model · Widget** — and you can click one you already visited to go back. With **← Back** you return to the previous step.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Save and exit**, at the top right, creates the agent as a draft with what you have so far and takes you back to **My agents**. You can complete the rest later from the agent's tabs.

## Step 1 — Type

The **What will your agent do?** screen shows the available templates. Each template comes with instructions and fields ready for that job; everything can be adjusted later. You can search with **Search templates…** or filter by category: **All**, **Support**, **Sales**, **Scheduling**, **Industries**, and **Internal team**.

| Type | Description |
| - | - |
| **Customer support** | Resolves questions, issues, and general customer inquiries |
| **General AI agent** | A versatile assistant for a wide range of questions |
| **Sales agent** | Qualifies prospects, explains value, and guides them toward conversion |

| **Internal IT helpdesk** | Helps employees with accounts, devices, access, and internal tools |
| **Real estate assistant** | Answers property questions, schedules visits, and assists buyers and renters |
| **Healthcare front desk** | Answers questions about the clinic or practice and routes patients |
| **Education admissions** | Helps prospective students with programs, admissions, and enrollment |
| **Travel & hospitality** | Answers guest and traveler questions and guides bookings or planning |
| **Restaurant assistant** | Answers questions about the menu, reservations, location, and dietary restrictions |

### Template fields

Some templates ask for additional data that is inserted into the instructions, marked with the **FROM THE TEMPLATE** label: for example, **Conversion goal** in Sales agent, **Return policy URL** in E-commerce support, or **Booking link** in Booking & scheduling.

### Your website

Type your site's address in **Your website** (for example, `example.com`) and click **Analyze my site**. From it, ChatNorris gets your brand's name, description, logo, and color.

If you don't have a website, check **I don't have a website** and fill in **Business name** and **What does your business do?**. Without a website, the wizard skips the analysis and the training; you can upload documents later from the [Knowledge Base](https://docs.chatnorris.ai/en/guias/knowledge-base.md).

> [!TIP]
>
> **Start from scratch** creates the agent instantly with the chosen template and takes you to its panel, without going through the rest of the wizard.

***

## Step 2 — Analysis

While ChatNorris analyzes your site, the **Building your agent.** screen shows the progress:

1. Reading your website
2. Identifying your brand
3. Summarizing what you do
4. Creating your agent
5. Drafting instructions
6. Writing welcome messages

If the site can't be read, you'll see **We couldn't read your site.** You can keep going anyway: fill in the name and description by hand in the next step.

***

## Step 3 — Business

In **Does this look right?** you review what ChatNorris detected:

* **Business name** — your company's name.
* **What does your business do?** — a short description. It's written in your language even if your site is in another one, and it's saved as the agent's description.
* **Detected brand** — the logo and color found on your site, which are used in the widget at the end.

Fix anything that's off (your agent introduces itself with this) and click **Looks good**.

***

## Step 4 — Training

In **Train your agent with your site.** ChatNorris looks for your site's public pages to add them to the agent's knowledge base. You'll see how many pages it found, up to a maximum of 60. If it doesn't find more pages, it reads only the home page.

* **This domain only** — skips subdomains (like `blog.yoursite.com`).
* In **Advanced options**: **Exclude paths** (for example `/blog, /legal, /admin`) and **Exclude domains**.

Click **Train and continue**, or **Skip for now** if you'd rather choose the content yourself later. From **My agents → \[your agent] → Knowledge Base** you can crawl your site reviewing the pages before training, or use a sitemap, a list of URLs, documents, text, or FAQs. See [Knowledge Base](https://docs.chatnorris.ai/en/guias/knowledge-base.md).

## Step 5 — Model

### AI model

**Choose the AI model.** The wizard suggests three options, each with its cost in credits per message:

* the **RECOMMENDED** model (the best balance of quality and cost),
* the most affordable one in your plan (fast, ideal for FAQs and high volume),
* an alternative from another provider.

**See all N models** opens the full list, with a search box. Models your plan doesn't include appear with **Requires {plan}**. You can change the model whenever you want from the agent's settings. For more detail on what to choose, see the [models guide](https://docs.chatnorris.ai/en/guias/modelos-ia-creditos.md).

### Only answer from its knowledge base

The **Only answer from its knowledge base** switch (KB-Only mode) makes the agent, if it doesn't know something, say so instead of making it up:

* The agent **doesn't use the AI model's general knowledge**.
* It's ideal for support assistants where accuracy is the priority.

If you turn it off, the model can supplement with its general knowledge when the knowledge base has no relevant information. You can change it later in **Settings → AI**.

### Agent instructions (system prompt)

The **Agent instructions** field is generated from the chosen template and what ChatNorris read about your business. You can edit it freely; **Restore template** goes back to the original text, and **Use suggested settings** resets the whole step.

**Recommended structure:**

```
You are [name/role] at [company]. Your mission is [main goal].
Tone: [formal/friendly/concise].
Limits: only answer questions about [allowed topics].
If you don't know something, say so and suggest contacting [support channel].
```

## Step 6 — Widget

In **Give your agent a face.** you customize how your visitors will see the widget. Changes are reflected instantly in the **PREVIEW**, which you can view **Open** or **Closed**.

| Field | Description |
| - | - |
| **Primary color** | Color of the widget's header and button. If you analyzed your site, the detected color appears first (**From your site**); with **Pick another color** you use a different one. |
| **Text and icons** | **Auto** picks white or dark so it's always readable; you can also choose **White** or **Dark** by hand. |
| **Logo** | PNG, JPG, SVG, or WebP, up to 2 MB. If you analyzed your site, the detected logo is used until you upload another one. |
| **Agent name** | How the bot introduces itself in the widget. Use a person's name or a role, not the company's. |
| **Welcome message** | The first message the widget shows when it opens. It comes suggested with the agent's and your business's names. |

Click **Create agent**.

> [!TIP]
>
> You can edit all these values again at any time from the agent's **Customize** tab. There you'll also find additional options (branding, widget behavior, visibility) — see [Customize the widget](https://docs.chatnorris.ai/en/guias/widget-personalizacion.md).

## After the wizard

When you finish, the agent is created as a **draft** in **My agents** and you see the **To publish** list, with four steps that check themselves off as you complete them:

1. **Knowledge Base** — completed with at least one source. If you trained with your site in step 4, it's done.
2. **Customize** — completed when you save in Customize or upload your own logo or avatar.
3. **Test in Playground** — completed with the first message you send in the Playground (or with any real conversation).
4. **Connect a channel** — completed when you publish the agent: the web widget from **Deploy**, or WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, Messenger, Email, or Google Reviews from the same tab.

From that screen you can go to **My agents** or straight to the Playground with **Test in Playground →**. The same **To publish** list appears on the agent's card in **My agents** while it's still a draft.
